Aren’t katanas and longswords made for different overall purposes tho

Katanas are slasher weapons made for cutting masterfully through human flesh so obviously it’s not gonna get through a fucking longsword which is really fucking thick and heavy and made for beating the shit out of people as well as hacking at armour

Goatkuit, that’s exactly the point though. All the Katana weeaboos who keep going on saying, “OMG KATANA IS BEST WEPON EVARRR!!!!1!” and how they have this mystical cut through anything power because they believe it to be so. Some people believe a katana is fully capable of cutting through an MG42 barrel (which it’s not. Mythbusters tested it.)

A longsword is also still not made expressly for cutting through armour either, most plate mail would deflect it and ringmail would just absorb it, if getting cut a little. Most knight fights were endurance fights, given that even though you can be respectably mobile in a suit of armour, it would still tire you out and the first to drop exhausted would be the first to die. It is, however, a lot heavier than a katana and much of the damage dealt by a longsword is by its weight and how Newton’s First Law comes into effect here (and quite frankly, flesh just doesn’t put up that much resistance to sharpened metal).

Katanas were made for slicing leather and limbs, since that was what they (samurai) were fighting the most. Longswords were also made for lopping off limbs and such, but had to face more complex and protective armour, such as chainmail/ringmail and platemail. 

TL;DR, both katanas and longswords will fuck your shit up.
